Takehara City is a city in Hiroshima Prefecture. It has evolved as a hub of the transportation of Setouchi for a long time. Known as a port city since the Muromachi period, the late Edo period flourished in the saltworks industry.
It is called "Aki's small Kyoto", and the town district was selected by the Ministry of Land and Infrastructure in 2000 to "100 City scenery Selection". Located in the South central part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The city area is roughly divided into the town preservation district including the government and commercial districts which spread in a fan form, the port and the industrial district centering on the harbor, and the temples where cultural properties are concentrated centering on JR Takehara Station. It is also classified as a local specialty of the city, such as the Koabuki district.
