Omihachiman City is located on the east coast of Lake Biwa in central Shiga Prefecture.
It is known in Omi Merchant and Azuchi Castle. The city of Omihachiman, based on the castle town that Toyotomi Hidetsugu built, developed as a commercial city at the early Modern age. It is the birthplace of so-called OMI merchants. The new Town Street, Nagahara Town Street and the town along Hachiman Moat and the Tai Hachiman shrine precincts are selected as the country's important traditional building group Preservation District under the name of "Omihachiman City Hachiman Traditional Buildings Preservation District".
It is often used as a shooting place of the period drama.
