Kagoshima City is a city located in the southern part of Kyushu, and is the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture.

It is referred to as "Naples of the Orient" because the scenery which overlooks Sakurajima from the city of the west coast of Kagoshima Bay is similar to the view of the Vezovio volcano from Naples Italy. The center of political, economic, cultural and transportation in the southern Kyushu region, which ranges from Miyazaki Prefecture to Kagoshima Prefecture, located in the Midwest of Kagoshima Prefecture. Since ancient times, the Satsuma clan has flourished as a castle town of 90 million stones. It is one of the 31 cities that underwent the first municipal system in Japan on April 1, 1889, and now has the fourth largest population in Kyushu, next to Fukuoka City, Kitakyushu City and Kumamoto City. In the core city, it is second place next to Funabashi City. It is also designated as a tourist city for international conferences.
