Kirishima City is a city located in the central part of the mainland of Kagoshima prefecture.
On November 7, 2005, the city has the second largest population in Kagoshima Prefecture, with a merger of six towns in Kokubu City, Aira-gun, Mizabe-machi, Yokogawa-machi, Maizono-machi, Kirishima-machi and Fukuyama-cho. It is also a tourist destination known for its hot springs such as Kirishima Mountain in the Japan 100 mt, Kagoshima Jingu Hatsuuma Matsuri, Kirishima Onsen, Mt. Per diem, and Myoami Onsen.
"Kirishima" in the lyrics of a folk song and Kagoshima Ohara Bushi is a brand of the leaf tobacco which has been cultivated mainly in former Kokubu City before the merger with the Kirishima Azalea that this place is the place of origin and "Kokubu".
