Ukyo Ward is one of the 11 wards that make up Kyoto city.
Located in the western part of the city, the largest area in the city of Kyoto after the merger of the former Keihoku town (Sakyo-ku until then was the largest).
It is chiefly a residential ground now in the south in the district although the villa of royalty and the aristocrats of the capital was scattered in old times. The West and the north are mountainous districts.
The timber of the mountain Kokugo (Keihoku Yamakuni and Kuroda district) was once unloaded in the Katsuragawa, and it was transported to Kyoto by the downstream saga-Stephanie etc.
