Yamashina Ward is one of the 11 boroughs that make up Kyoto city.
The district is located in the northern part of the Yamashina Basin on the east side of Kyoto City and the surrounding mountains. It is separated from the Omi basin by the Kyoto Basin by Higashiyama by Mt. Otowa and Mt. Daigo Mountain.
It was a strategic point of transportation which connects Kyoto and the East country for a long time.
It was once a rural area with Shiga Prefecture, but now it becomes a bed town in Kyoto City and Osaka, and many people from other regions.
