The town is located in the southern part of the prefecture of Tochigi prefecture, and is a town of about 40,000 people belonging to Shimotsuga County. It is a post town of the town of the Mibu clan (Mibu Castle) and the Nikko West Road (Mibu Street). However, not all the regions belonging to the current town were the Mibu clan territory, and a part of the original South Inukai village also exists in the region which belonged to the Utsunomiya clan territory.

Moreover, there is a time when the lower Noeda clan existed in the Ueda district though it became Shian in one year or more (Genroku 5-6 years). There is a unique place called "Toy Town" because the toy factory was once attracted and the industrial park was developed.
There are many tombs along the Black River that runs through the center of the town, including chausu mounds and mound mounds.
