Sano City is located in the southwestern part of Tochigi Prefecture (lower foot). Part of the former Aso County and Ashikaga County. It was established on February 28, 2005 by the merger of former Sano City, Aso-gun, and Kuzuu-machi in the same county.
Prefecture is the fifth largest in the Ashikaga city with 120,000 inhabitants, and in recent years it is famous for Sano ramen and outlet mall.
