Kurihara City is a city located in the northwestern part of Miyagi prefecture. It is located in the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture, on the west side, Iwate Prefecture and northwestern part of Akita Prefecture. The highest point is the Kurikoma mountain at an altitude of 1, 627.4 m located at the northwest edge of the OU mountains. The city limits the flow from the OU mountains to the Sakogawa, Sakogawa, and Sakogawa and the tributaries of the former Sakogawa. The northwestern part is mountainous. In the central and southeastern areas, the lowlands and hilly lines along the river mixed to the east and west.
Most of the low-lying areas are used as paddy fields.
