Tomiya town is located in the middle of Miyagi prefecture, next to the north of Sendai City.
It has the bed town function of Sendai mainly.
On November 1, 2014, the estimated population in the towns of Japan became the first place in the country. In the town boundary, the south side is shared with Sendai City and part of the east side with Rifu town in Miyagi County, and the other east, north, and west are surrounded by Yamato town in Kurokawa County (see Kurokawa County # History). The boundary with Sendai is a watershed which divides former Miyagi County and Kurokawa County, and the river which flows through the town flows to the Yoshida River in Yamato town by all flowing north.
The town is composed of Tomiya hills and slender gorge plains along the river, which are created by a plurality of Yoshida river tributaries.
