Hitoyoshi City is the city in the southern part of Kumamoto Prefecture. Located in the Hitoyoshi basin, surrounded by the Kyushu Mountains, it is famous for its hot springs and river descent along the Kuma River. The center of the Hitoyoshi and Kuma region.
It flourished as a castle town of the Hitoyoshi clan Sagara. Located about 70km to the south of Kumamoto, it is the southernmost point of Kumamoto Prefecture. The north and south are mountains in the Kyushu Mountains.
