Tamana City is a city with a population of about 66000 people located in the northern part of Kumamoto Prefecture. It is a central city in the northern part of Kumamoto Prefecture and has a national and prefectural branch. The Tamana hot springs in the city are famous. On October 3, 2005, it merged with the Taimei town, Yokoshima town, and Tin Shui Wai town, and became the city of Tamana by the new municipal system.
Each former city has a regional autonomous Region (Tamana Autonomous Zone, Taimei Autonomous Zone, Yokoshima Autonomous zone and Tin Shui Wai Autonomous area).
